Our Classes... RELIGION: God and His Word Our first unit introduces God and His Word, starting with the identity and attributes of God and an explanation of the Bible and how it has come to us. We learn that God wants us to read, understand, and apply His Word. Check out the 'Memory Work' tab on our website to see the words, hear a song, and print the memory work/spelling sheet. Our test on John 6:68 will be on Friday. READING: Literacy Block Now that most classes are back in school, we are continuing our literacy block. Literacy block takes place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please watch for the small group assignment sheet that goes home on these days. Check your child's small group assignment, and sign the form when the work is done. Thanks! WRITING: Writing Process We are exploring the steps of the writing process that promote effective writing. Students review the writing process as they write a story inspired by Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, a fun book I am reading the class. In each chapter, parents call Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle about a problem they are having with their children, and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle gives them a wonderful and hilarious cure. This week, we complete the final draft. SPELLING: List 3A - Long vowels List 3A mostly looks at words that contain long vowel. Please check the Vocabulary A-Z website for our current spelling list and corresponding activities. Our 3A spelling test will be on Thursday. SOCIAL STUDIES: Our Environment Chapter 1 asks the question, "How do we interact with our planet?" In this chapter, students get a basic overview of the geography of the United States; learn about how different environments affect people, plants, and animals; consider how people use natural resources; and ponder the importance of environmental conservation. SCIENCE: Types of Living Things In this chapter, the big idea is, "Cells are the building blocks of all the many types of living things." We will be looking at different types of living things, at parts of living things (like cells), and at how living things grow and change.
