Our Classes... RELIGION: God and His Word Our first unit introduces God and His Word, starting with the identity and attributes of God and an explanation of the Bible and how it has come to us. We learn that God wants us to read, understand, and apply His Word. Our oral test on Colossians 1:16b-17 will be on Friday. MATH: Chapter 1: Numbers to 10,000 Chapter 1 focuses on counting and comparing numbers to 10,000. Lessons this week include...
READING: Benchmarking This week, I will be benchmarking with the students. This is the process of finding their "just-right" reading level so that we can best meet their individual needs. WRITING: First writing prompt Students are beginning their handwriting lessons and will also be independently writing a short story in order to give me an idea of their beginning writing skills. This writing will entirely be done in class. SPELLING: List 0 - Names List 0 looks at the names of the students in our class. This list serves to introduce some of the routines and activities that we will use throughout the year. Please check the Spelling City website for our current spelling list and corresponding activities. Our name spelling test will be on Thursday. SCIENCE: Getting Ready for Science In this introductory chapter, the big idea is, "Science is raising questions about Earth and the universe and seeking answers by careful observation and investigation." We will be highlighting some inquiry tools, some inquiry skills, and the scientific method. SOCIAL STUDIES: Geography Skills Handbook As we begin work in our social studies books, we explore different types of maps, parts of maps, and what we can learn from maps.
