A Few Notes...
Our Classes... RELIGION: God and His Word Our first unit introduces God and His Word, starting with the identity and attributes of God and an explanation of the Bible and how it has come to us. We learn that God wants us to read, understand, and apply His Word. Check out the 'Memory Work' tab on our website to see the words, hear a song, and print the memory work/spelling sheet. Our test on John 3:16 will be on Friday. MATH: Addition Up to 10,000 Chapter 3 focuses on adding large numbers with or without regrouping. Lessons this week include...
READING: Asking Questions As we read, it is important to occasionally stop and ask questions. This enables us as readers to identify important information and watch for answers. Sometimes, it might even inspire us to find out more when we are done reading our current book. WRITING: Writing Traits There are certain traits of writing that writers consider when seeking to make their writing strong. This week, we're being introduced to those traits: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation. SPELLING: List 3B - Digraphs ch, sh, th, wh List 3B mostly looks at words that contain the digraphs ch, sh, th, and wh. These consonant combinations make sounds that are distinct from the consonants when they are separate. Please check the Vocabulary A-Z website for our current spelling list and corresponding activities. Our 3B spelling test will be on Thursday. SOCIAL STUDIES: Our Environment Chapter 1 asks the question, "How do we interact with our planet?" In this chapter, students get a basic overview of the geography of the United States; learn about how different environments affect people, plants, and animals; consider how people use natural resources; and ponder the importance of environmental conservation. SCIENCE: Types of Living Things In this chapter, the big idea is, "Cells are the building blocks of all the many types of living things." We will be looking at different types of living things, at parts of living things (like cells), and at how living things grow and change.
