Our Classes... RELIGION: Jesus Bring Salvation Our fourth unit looks at the events of Christmas as well as Christ's death and resurrection as we examine the purpose and significance of His birth. Our test on Romans 8:16-17 will be on Friday. MATH: Division Chapter 8 focuses on remainders when dividing to make equal groups or when sharing equally. Lessons this week include...
SPELLING: List 8b - Word endings -ed, -ing, -s List 8b mostly looks at words that have the suffixes -ed, -ing, or -s added to them. In particular, we look at how this changes the spelling of the words. Please check the Vocabulary A-Z website for our current spelling list and corresponding activities. My teacher username is 'lgerlach3'. Our 8b spelling test will be on Thursday. READING: Small group reading starts up again this week. SOCIAL STUDIES: Communities Build a Nation Chapter 3 asks the question, "How does our past affect our present?" In this chapter, students learn about the original inhabitants of North America and how and why other people came to America. They also learn about how American exploration and settlement caused changes in the lives of people at the time and how it affects our lives today. This week, students complete their Native American tribe posters. These should be done by Wednesday. SCIENCE: Where Living Things Are Found In this chapter, the big idea is, "All the living and nonliving things in an environment interact in an ecosystem." We will be looking at different types of ecosystems, how they work, and how they change.

SPELLING: List 7b - Words with Multiple Meanings List 7b mostly looks at words with more than one meaning. Because these words are not themed around a spelling pattern, I recommend spending some extra time with them. Please check the Vocabulary A-Z website for our current spelling list and corresponding activities. My teacher username is 'lgerlach3'. Our 7b spelling test will be on Thursday. WRITING: Writing this week focuses on developing paragraphs. We are specifically working on writing topic sentences and details. In this chapter, students learn how people make economic choices to get what they need and want, consider how people use different kinds of resources to produce goods and services, and investigate how people can increase their human capital. This week, we finish the chapter. SCIENCE: Types of Animals In this chapter, the big idea is, "Animals can be classified by their traits." We will be looking at what animals need to live and the traits of various kinds of vertebrates and invertebrates. |
