Often, I find myself going through prayers somewhat quickly while praying for the same things I commonly do. Setting aside a large block of time allowed me to pray differently... thinking about different kinds of details and having a more "real" talk with God. I saw this same occurrence with the students. Many of them became quite involved in their prayers as they brought personal petitions to God, as well as petitions involving the school, the church, their classmates, the town, the state, the country, and the world. Prayer is a powerful thing, and God promises to listen to us every time we come to Him. Isn't it wonderful that we have a God who cares about all of our concerns and is eager for us to spend time with Him. Our Class...

This was a time to pray and recharge. This week, students will be involved in standardized testing for a couple hours every day. This can be a stressful time for them. As such, we will be taking a rest from homework this week. There will be no homework and no tests. In addition to this, please help to ensure that your children have time at home to relax and to play outside. Also, please ensure that they have healthy meals and snacks and that they get a good amount of sleep at night. Thanks! Our Class...

As we examine prayer, we are careful not to think of God as a magic genie, granting any wish we desire. God indeed answers and responds to our prayer, but He does so knowing what is best. Sometimes, what He knows is best matches what we think is best, but that's not always the case. Sometimes, we can't imagine how something will work out for the best, and we may never find out what good comes from what seems like a bad situation. Yet, we need to continue to go to God in prayer, knowing that He listens and responds. Afterall, He is all-loving, all-knowing, and all-powerful. What a great combination for us who only dabble in love, knowledge, and power! Our Class...

On a day like this, though, it's always good to have the kind of attitude that can withstand a little foolishness. As Christians, we are sometimes considered foolish by those who do not believe in our God. However, 1 Corinthians 1:18 and 25 say, "For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.... For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men." When you stand by your faith and face the criticism of the world around you, take confidence. You are stand with God, the ultimate Wisdom. As Christian adults, it is also our duty to prepare our children to face future criticism, preparing them to counter conflicting views, and rooting them in God's love. It's a big job. May God bless us as we prepare our kids! Our Class...
