The aliens are coming!
In a random act of silliness one day this past week, I told the class that we were going to be visited by aliens. All day, students asked when they were coming. When the aliens didn't come, the students wanted to know what happened. What started as an act of silliness has now become a fun part of our class. On Friday, we used this theme to introduce letter writing, emphasize correct spelling, review vowels and consonants, and write in code. If your child hasn't yet told you, ask them what their name is in alien language. I wouldn't be surprised if the aliens help us with some other topics this year as well.
This past week, the students were introduced to the iPads. We talked about their proper use, looked at a few apps, and several students helped me in leveling books using them. These are going to be great learning tools for us to use in the years to come.
Thank you to all the parents who joined us for the Buckskinner event. It was a lot of fun, providing many opportunities for learning. Check out our students' reflections in the hallway outside our classroom.
A few additional notes...
Mr. Gerlach Gone: Mr. Willie and I have the opportunity to attend a series of monthly workshops on using technology in the classroom. The second of these takes place this Thursday, October 10th; therefore, a substitute teacher will be leading the class.
Walkathon Success: The walkathon was a lot fun, and it was great to see so many of you there. Thank you to all the people who donated money, raised money, put time and effort into the organization, and came to walk. Congratulations to Gabrielle and Savannah for setting our class records in walking and fundraising.
Lutheran Bible Translators: This quarter's chapel offerings go to Becky Grossman in her work with Lutheran Bible Translators to help people around the world in having a Bible in their home languages.
Upcoming Teacher Conference: Due to the LCMS National Teacher Conference on October 24-25, there will be no school.
