And we're off!
After making our way through the third week of school, it seems that we are getting in the swing of things. We have begun to stick more closely to the schedule, and we have begun to have regular homework assignments.
Please pay special attention during these first few weeks of homework. It is essential that your children develop strong study habits. Set a time and choose a particular place that will be a part of your child's everyday homework routine. Also, be certain to check your child's assignment booklet to help ensure that all necessary homework is getting done.
Thank you for your prayers for the students, for me, and for the school during these first few weeks. It is wonderful to be part of this caring Christian community.
A few additional notes...
Chapel on Monday This Week: This Monday, Becky Grossnick will be coming to talk to our school about Lutheran Bible Translators, the recipient of our chapel offerings for the first quarter. We will therefore have chapel on Monday morning at 8:30 instead of our usual Wednesday time. As always, your are invited to join us.
Upcoming Fieldtrip: On September 20th, our class will be going to Woodlawn-Union Park in Hartford to attend the Hartford Buckskinners event. This will be a great opportunity to experience a little of what it was like to live in the past. Students may wish to bring no more than $5 to purchase small items at the event. Right now, I need to confirm with some parents about the number of children they can take, but we could probably use one more driver.
PTL Meeting and Potluck: This Tuesday, find out more about our school and how you can be involved at the PTL meeting and potluck. There's sure to be lots of delicious food and yummy information.
Caleb's birthday was the first one we celebrated this year!
This might look familiar...
This week, we continued to develop class routines and attempted to head towards following our class schedule. As is to be expected during the second week of school, we still have not gotten to the point when we are closely following our class schedule. While we are getting closer, expect that it will take another week for us to get on track. Because of this, most of the items below are very close to what you saw in last week's newsletter. I knew I was being overly-ambitious, but it's good to be well-planned.
Most of you may not have seen our first class newsletter because I was trying to send a group email using a different method. I didn't realize my method was unsuccessful until today. I encourage you to take a look at the the message on the top of last week's newsletter, but I would also recommend not reading the rest of it since that week is now past.
It's been a great second week of school, and I am really enjoying getting to know your kids. Together, we're learning a lot about how to work together, what it means to be strong listeners, and how a multi-age classroom works. I know God will continue to bless this group and our time together.
A few additional notes...
PTL Golf Outing: This is an important fundraiser for Good Shepherd and takes place this Sunday, September 8th. Join us for golf, food, an auction, and fun!
Upcoming Fieldtrip: On September 20th, our class will be going to Woodlawn-Union Park in Hartford to attend the Hartford Buckskinners event. This will be a great opportunity to experience a little of what it was like to live in the past. We are in need of drivers and chaperones to take us there. Please return permission slips by Friday, September 13th, and be sure to include $2 for each person who will be attending.
Computer User Agreement: Please return computer user agreements as soon as possible so that your child may use computers at school. Thank you to those of you who have already done so.
Mr. Gerlach Gone: Mr. Willie and I have the opportunity to attend a series of monthly workshops on using technology in the classroom. The first of these takes place this Thursday, September 12th; therefore, a substitute teacher will be leading the class.
Monkey Binder: The monkey binder went home today for the first time. Next week, I will be sending you more details about this organizational tool. Please make sure to take them time to look at this with your children each night in order to help them develop strong work and organization skills.
Scholastic Book Orders: Book orders went home Friday, August 30th. The original due date was Friday, September 6th, but I will extend this to Monday, September 9th because of the confusion with last week's newsletter. You may instead place book orders directly with Scholastic using their website. I love this option because it is less work for me!
